Debasish grew up in Hooghly, West Bengal, India. He received his bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Centenary College, Rahara, Kolkata, India. He then did his master’s thesis at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Mumbai, under the supervision of Prof. Rodney A. Fernandes, where he studied “Total synthesis of (+)-Muricadienin”. In 2017, he joined the group of Prof. Ramakrishna G. Bhat in the Department of Chemistry at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune, for his doctoral research. His Ph.D. thesis is specialized in carbene transfer reactions under Lewis acid catalysis and under photochemical conditions. After completing his Ph.D. and a short stay in the Prof. Summon Koul group as research assistant, he joined Prof. Koenigs’ group at RWTH Aachen University, Germany, in 2024 as Postdoctoral Research Assistant, in the area of photoinduced radical chemistry. In 2025, Debasish joined the Marek group to develop ring contraction strategies of highly substituted cyclohexanes.
